both的用法

　　英語中, both 的用法比較復雜，它既可用作代詞，又可用作形容詞。為幫助同學們準確掌握其用法，現歸納如下：

　　一、both用作代詞，意為“兩者”、“雙方”。

　　1.在句子中作主語或賓語，可單獨使用或用于“both of...”結構中，但當of后面是名詞時，名詞前面必須有the、one’s等限定詞。另外，當其作主語時，謂語動詞必須用復數。如：

　　Both are good. 兩個都挺好。

　　Why not use both? 為什么不兩者都用?

　　Both of them have gone out. 他們倆都外出了。

　　Both of the men are asleep. 那兩個男人都睡著了。

　　Of course, I wish both of your children well. 當然，我祝福你的兩個孩子都健康。

　　2.用作主語的同位語。其位置主要有三種情況：①放在實義(行為)動詞之前;②放在情態動詞、助動詞之后;③放在連系動詞be之后。如：

　　We are both students. 我們倆都是學生。

　　Don’t thank me. You must both thank him! 別謝我。你們倆必須感謝他!

　　We have both passed the mid-examination. 我們倆都通過了期中考試。

　　在簡略回答及感嘆句中，both不能位于句尾，要放在連系動詞be、助動詞或情態動詞之前。如：

　　—Are you ready?你們準備好了嗎?

　　—Yes, we both are. 是的，我們倆都準備好了(不能說Yes, we are both)。

　　How clever they both are!他們倆多聰明啊!

　　3.用作賓語同位語。這時，both要緊跟在賓語之后。如：

　　You may take them both. 你可以把兩個都拿去。

　　He likes Tom and Wang Hai both. 湯姆和王海兩個他都喜歡。

　　二、both用作形容詞，意為“兩者的”、“雙方的”。

　　both作形容詞用時，是一個首位限定詞，它必須放在其他限定詞或修飾詞之前。如：

　　There are lots of trees on both sides of the road. 公路兩旁都有很多樹。

　　Please hold both my hands in yours. 請握住我的雙手。

　　Both children are my sons. 兩個孩子都是我的兒子。

　　both作形容詞修飾復數名詞時，意義上與either修飾單數名詞是一樣的。如：

　　Both films are interesting. 兩部電影都很有趣。

　　Either film is interesting. 兩部(中的任何一部)電影都很有趣。

　　三、用作代詞或形容詞的both與not連用時，表示部分否定，意為“兩者不都”。如：

　　Both her sisters are not in Shanghai(=Not both her sisters are in Shanghai).她的兩個妹妹并不都在上海。

　　I won’t take both, please. 兩個我不全都要。

　　Not both books are helpful. 兩本書并不都是有益處的。

　　四、“both...and”只用于肯定句，否定句要用“neither...nor”。如：

　　Both you and I know this. 你和我都知道這事。

　　Neither you nor I know this. 你和我都不知道這事。

　　He can speak both English and French. 他既能講英語，又能講法語。

　　He can speak neither English nor French.他既不會講英語，也不會講法語。

　　both,all的區別和用法

　　all ,both,表示“都”,“全部”.

　　(1) both指兩個人或物,而all指三個以上的人或物,在句中都可作主語、賓語、表語、同位語或定語.

　　Both of us want to go.我們兩人都想去.

　　All of us should work hard.我們都應努力工作.

　　(2) both和all都可直接修飾名詞;名詞前如有限定詞時,其前只能用both of或all of.

　　Both brothers are clever.兄弟倆都聰明.

　　Both of the books are useful.兩本書都有用.

　　(3) both和all在句中的位置是位于be動詞之后,行為動詞之前,如有情態動詞或助動詞,則位于情態動詞或助動詞與主動詞之間.

　　We are all here.我們都來了.

　　[特別提醒]

　　(1) both的反義詞是neither,all的反義詞是none.

　　Both of us are not doctors.我們倆并非都是醫生.(部分否定)

　　Neither of us is a doctor.我們倆都不是醫生.(全部否定)

　　All of the books are not helpful.并非所有這些書都對人有幫助.(部分否定)
