When I was a child， my homesickness was a small stamp
Linking Mum at the other end and me this.
小時候，鄉愁是一枚小小的郵票，
我在這頭，母親在那頭。
When grown up， I remained homesick， but it became a ticket
By which I sailed to and from my bride at the other end.
長大后，鄉愁是一張窄窄的船票，
我在這頭，新娘在那頭。
Then homesickness took the shape of a grave，?
Mum inside of it and me outside.
后來啊!鄉愁是一方矮矮的墳墓，
我在外頭，母親在里頭。
Now I’m still homesick， but it is a narrow strait
而現在，鄉愁是一灣淺淺的.海峽，
Separating me on this side and the mainland on the other.
我在這頭，大陸在那頭。我在這頭，大陸在那頭。
【詩人簡介】
余光中(1928—)，祖籍福建永春，生于江蘇南京，當代著名詩人和評論家。1946年考入廈門大學外文系。1947年入金陵大學外語系(后轉入廈門大學)，1948年發表第一首詩作，1949年歲父母遷香港，次年赴臺，就讀于臺灣大學外文系。1953年，與覃子豪、鐘鼎文等共創“藍星”詩社。后赴美進修，獲美國愛荷華大學藝術碩士學位。
詩人的思鄉之愁不是直白地說出來的，而是通過聯想、想象，塑造了四幅生活藝術形象(郵票、船票、墳墓、海峽)，使之呈現在讀者眼前。作者把對母親、妻子、祖國的思念、眷念之情熔于一爐，表達出渴望親人團聚、國家統一的強烈愿望。
